Nasr City is one of Cairo's relatively modern neighborhoods. It was established as an extension of the Heliopolis neighborhood. Nasr City is divided into two neighborhoods: the “East District” and the “West District” of Nasr City, and then into several smaller sheikhs due to its large area.
Nasr City is the largest neighborhood in Cairo in terms of area, as it extends over an area of approximately 250 square kilometers, out of the total area of the capital, which amounts to 1,445 square kilometers.
Foundation
Nasr City is one of the most important “new cities” that was established after the July 23 Revolution through the urban expansion program. It was distinguished by the construction, civilizational, and pioneering style of the Egyptian people.
Reconstruction began in the Nasr City area in accordance with the Republican Decree (of the late President Gamal Abdel Nasser) issued at the end of the 1950s to accommodate urban expansion away from agricultural areas. Therefore, the state’s attention turned to reconstruction to the east in the Nasr City desert area, and it was planned to be the area east of the Abbasid Desert. Integrated, with comprehensive civilizational dimensions, urbanization is still increasing, its area is expanding, and its population is increasing.
